STRINGS: I'm sure you've heard that you should change your strings before recording. It’s a great idea, just make sure you “break them in” by playing them an hour or so BEFORE you start tracking, this way they will stay in tune for the session.
At In Phaze Audio we highly recommend using a new set of Nickel strings..
FX: Most of the time you will be asked to not use them. Effects like chorus, flange, echo, verb, etc., are best added later in the mix. Unless it is absolutely part of your sound, Like the Edge in U2? Remember once its recorded its permanent!
Active PICKUPS?: Don’t forget your NEW battery!
Any Noise in there?: Do you have a noisy amp, guitar, pedal board? Check those cables, and keep an extra ground lift with you. If you have scratchy Vol or tone knobs on your amp please get this fixed before going into the studio. One of the biggest misconceptions is using a “noise gate” to filter out noise. This will not work, If your amp is putting out to much noise, its going to translate to the recording just as it is.
Check your cables, if your in a working band chances are that your cables have seen better days, why not treat yourself to a new set for the recording session.

We have a kit for You:
Here at In Phaze Audio we have a Pearl Master series 5 pc kit. Sizes are 10x10 12x11 14x16 Toms,
Chad Smith 14” Snare,
20x18 Kick,
and all “A” custom Zydiljan cymbals, 13” hats, 8” 16” 18” thin crash cymbals as well as 22”ride and 18” china.
THE “DREADED” CLICK TRACK:
Practice playing to a click/metronome and keep track of the BPMs of each song. We’ll need this for the computer settings.
This is very important for editing latter on. It also keeps the songs very tight!
If you bring your kit here are some tips.
DRUM HEADS: Replace your drumheads about 1 week before entering the studio. And break them in and tune them up!
Don’t forget the EXTRA'S: Bring an extra top snare head just incase. Bring plenty of extra sticks. Also be sure to bring a drum key and anything else that might be needed.

One of the most important parts to your recording is the Vocals, so try to relax. The best way to get a great performance is the singers comfort. So let us know what you need. Also don't hold back. You’ve been singing these songs for some time, and you want to express them with feeling!
GO FOR IT!
CAUTION!
Don’t blow your voice out!: Many times singers will go beyond their normal volume, and blow their voice out, you want to warm up, but not the point of using up all your vocal strength.

A r r a n g e m e n t s Try to have your arrangements in order before recording. This will save you time and MONEY! If your working up original material keep records of the BPMs of each song. At times, charts are good to have as well, if your guitarist is also the singer you may want to have charts to get trough the song with out vocals. In most cases the singer will OVER DUB the vocals. Can you play your songs with the correct number of verses and chorus WITH OUT the vocals? Just figured I’d bring it up.
